Smart Sensors

Just about everyone has a smoke detector installed. But did you know that there are more smart detectors available? With smart sensors, you and close family or friends can help monitor your home, whether you're home or not.

You may be tempted by the combination smoke detector/carbon monoxide alarms, but don't buy them. Smoke is lighter than air, and rises, and carbon monoxide is heavier than air, and sinks, so by the time the carbon monoxide reaches the level of the smoke detector, it will be too late. Instead, buy separate smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and plug the carbon monoxide detector in close to floor level, and the smoke detector near the ceiling.

There just aren't that many non-combination smart smoke or CO detectors out there, so I recommend a security system that will listen for an alarm and alert you.
