Security

We've seen the ads for the various services that are supposed to provide security.

But you can have your own security system with a smart speaker, security cameras, and sensors for far less than the cost of those services. An entry-level system, depending on the layout of your space, can cost less than $200, and it's yours and can't be taken away from you.
I own several Wyze cams and they started out well, and got better with each firmware upgrade. They integrate with Alexa and soon with Google Home, and so there's no more fear of lying unattended for days. Your relatives and friends can check on you remotely. And you can always turn off your interior cameras for privacy. The cams have two-way audio so you can talk to someone at your door, even if you're hundreds of miles away. If you're handy, you can even use it as a dash cam.

What if you turn off your cameras and then fall? Your relatives and friends can still check on you and see that your cameras have been off for a while, and then call or come by. Or you can share your camera with someone you trust.

And even better: your Wyze cams can listen for your smoke and carbon monoxide sensors and alert you (or someone else) when they go off. While the cams won't call the fire department for you, they will send text alerts with IFTTT.

If you own a Wyze cam, you can use that connection to add motion sensors and contact sensors that will tell you (and someone you trust) when something is open or closed.
