Ovens and Burners

As we age, let's face it, we forget things. In some cases, forgetting things can be deadly.

One of the most frightening ideas is leaving the stove or oven on too long and your house catching fire. If you have a relatively new oven, most have cook timers, that will turn the oven off after a set period of time. Get in the habit now of using it. If you know precisely how long to cook something for, then set the cook time for that (after the oven preheats). If you don't know precisely how long something will take, after the oven preheats, set it for the maximum time something is supposed to cook. If your recipe says cook 30-45 minutes, set the cook timer for 45 minutes, and set a timer for 30. (You can set timers through your smart speaker, too). That way, you can be sure to never forget to turn the oven off.

If you are in the market for a new range top, consider induction. Induction burners are more energy-efficient, as well as being programmable to precise degrees of temperature and time. If you don't have induction-friendly cookware, you can buy a simple heat transfer disk to continue using your own pots and pans. Also, induction burners don't stay hot after you remove the pot or pan from the burner, so there is less chance of burning yourself.

Yes, you may be used to cooking with gas or electric. Is it worth the risk to continue when leaving a burner on may burn down your house?
